Founder's Day

June is a special month for us here at The Latest Thing (12stepgold.com & giftofrecovery.com). On June 10th, we celebrate the anniversary of two hopeless alcoholics, Bill W. and Dr. Bob, coming together to form what is known the world over as Alcoholics Anonymous. These two men solved the drink problem, cleaned up the alcoholic wreckage of their pasts, had spiritual awakenings, and carried their experience, strength, and hope to other suffering alcoholics. So you see, The Latest Thing would not exist if these two Divinely inspired men had not met up!

June 10th is also a very special day for our owner Kimberly as it is her younger son's birthday! Prior to Kimberly getting pregnant, she had considered closing the store and prayed and prayed to God, asking for a sign. Then, she became pregnant and her son was born on Founders Day! We believe that just as Bill and Bob were Divinely inspired, so too are ALL of us, that is, if we get out of God's Way.

At the Latest Thing, we not only celebrate Alcoholics Anonymous but Narcotics Anonymous, Al-Anon, Gambler's Anonymous, Overeaters Anonymous, Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous, and many more 12-step based recovery programs, both theistic and non-theistic. We are a store for healing, and every employee here has benefitted from one or more of these programs.

We celebrate our recovery each and every day with special gratitude for the two selfless men named Bill and Bob who saved millions of lives with this very simple spiritual program of action outlined in the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous. All over the globe Founder's Day is celebrated, and the Big Book has been translated into 100 languages and has a presence in approximately 180 nations worldwide.

Here in Orange County, Ca, there are literally thousands of Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, and other 12-step groups that have meetings in the area, and at the store, we are able to meet many of our customers when they come in for chips and literature. It is an honor to watch our customers AND our employees recreate their lives and go on to know the meaning of the words happy, joyous, and free!

If Alcoholics Anonymous has shown us anything, it is definitely this….you are NOT alone, you CAN get sober, and you CAN heal. We look forward to being a part of that journey here at The Latest Thing as we witness you all trudging the Road Of Happy Destiny on the Sunny Side Of The Street.
