A Powerful Recovery Tool

When you’re learning more about how others work a good Twelve Step Program, you may hear sponsors and friends suggest you use a God Box as a tool in recovery.  Although it’s not mentioned in the official literature of AA, the God Box has long had a place in the toolbox of the sober or abstinent 12 Step program member. Some suggest its history is borrowed from religious rituals. This is because using a God Box is clearly spiritual in nature. It is not considered a place to ask for material gains or to get your wishes fulfilled. Instead, it is the place where you symbolically turn over your difficulties, your fears, and your defects of character to your Higher Power. It is a tool for letting go.
